A Biblical Jesus??
I am going to leave this posted for a day or so, before I give commentary on it. I personally think it portrays an unbiblical characterization of Jesus. What do you think?

25 Spoke Up:
Jesus is the Lord of lords and King of kings. He is ruler over everything. He is NOT a beggar! The theology portrayed in this video is very modern American. I don't think it is a hard thing for the God of the universe to draw His people to Himself.
The demons in the "drama" had no fear of God.
I am reminded of why the vast majority of Christians should keep their artistic expressions locked away in a closet.
What the crap is that all about?
For a hero with the abilities to defeat the enemy, "Justin Timberlake Jesus" has a pretty lousy sense of timing.
That being said, it is an interesting portrayal from the sinner's vantage point. We all believe she cannot "claim" some innocuous victory over these things. There is the sense of pursuit.
However, "Justin Timberlake Jesus" doesn't exactly seem to be worth pursuing.
Where do you find this stuff Jason?
Jason,
It makes Jesus look like a big wuss hippie type...
"Christian" drama, which apparently invariably subjugates Jesus to the whim of man's(/woman's) sovereignty, is pathetic in the true sense of the word ... as is that which it manifests: Anthropocentric theology.
Well I would begin with the Second Commandment but I think this is all covered under the First...
This is amazing.
New TV Reality show: Dancing with Jesus?
"...makes Jesus look like a big wuss hippie type..." Made me laugh. The whole thing was pretty hoaky (sp?) I can see my old church doing something just like this!!!
"Hey! It's Me! Jesus! I have a wonderful plan for your life. You just have to reach out to me. Hello? Over here! Look at me! No. Over here! Hey! Come on. Can't you see I'm right here for you? I can't help you until you reach out to me. Come on. Please? Just use your free will and choose me. Yoo-hoo! Over here!"
Hey...
I thought Jesus had long hair, a full beard, and wore a solid white thingy. What's with that Purple strap?
No seriously, I think Kyle nailed it on the head in the first post.
This "Jesus is the the best boyfriend ever, and boy is he a good dancer" theology is pleasing people strait into hell.
Grace and Peace..

Irreverent!
Honestly, I would have to devote a lot of thought to finding something outright unbiblical about this: though I'm not really one to interpret the performing arts. I am interested to hear your criticism. I'm sure you have something in mind that escapes me on this.
And,of course, the demons are predominantly ethnic minorities while Jesus looks like a Scandinavian (as does the "innocent" girl). No subliminal message there, noooo.
It's unbiblical because Jesus is not some gay looking guy flitting around in heaven flapping his arms and blowing fairy dust. Makes him look like a sissified mama's boy.
Give me a Jesus riding a horse and smoking a Marlboro any day. That's the problem with the church these days. Way too girly. Enough I say. Lock and load. You heard it first on Fide-o.

Like another poster stated by raising the issue of the 2nd Commandment, it is against the Law of God to have an image or likeness of Jesus. Yes, He was incarnated as a man, but we have no Apostolic descriptions of Him (probably by Divine design. Also, he was fully man AND fully God, thus we cannot correctly portray Him, and to try is to divide His nature, which is forbidden.
That being stated the other theology was pretty bad as well (distinctly Arminian).
Yeah, I recognize him... that's wimpy jesus, too impotent to accomplish his will (a.k.a. arminian jesus, held hostage by sovereign man). Just think, less than two years ago, before I was introduced to the doctrines of grace, I would have thought that was o.k. How true is Hebrews 5:13-14...no chocolate milk, thanks. Pass the steak, bro!
I thought it was pretty good, I mean, I know they're Arminians, but I thought it was quite moving personally. Just because you disagree with their theology (as do I) doesn't mean you have to attack their motives.
Interpretive dance at it's finest!
Abclay,
I love your quote:
"This "Jesus is the the best boyfriend ever, and boy is he a good dancer" theology is pleasing people strait into hell. "
St. Brianstine,
I am sorry, but that isn't mine. That is from MacArthur's Matthew 7 "beware of false prophets" sermon I think.
Grace and Peace anyways...

Robert, I heard of a sermon one time called "A Castrated God" that may have helped sum this up. Have you heard that sermon.
I wasn't necessarily defending the dramatic portrayal nor intending to be argumentative, but I am interested to hear your criticism. It just seems to me that on face value the skit emphasizes man in his plight of sin with no intention of an emphasis on the soveriegnty of God. This is what moved me. For all I know, though, they have no theology of the sovereignty of God--probably don't. As for that sermon I preached I was making a stab at what they were teaching us in preaching class, the need of an "attention getting segment in the sermon". This, I believed (still do) was unbiblical, at least in the way they were teaching it; as it ringed of seeker sensitivity and pragmaticism, :and as such it was offensive to me, for I believed the word of God "gets our attention" in and of itself--can keep it too. I was young and preached hard truth without love. I don't apologize for the content of the sermon (though I wonder if the title was a bit blasphemous; either way, I think it got their attention; so technically I guess I met the requirement) but only the way in which it was delivered. I later asked the professor what grade I would be getting. He said, "what do you care. God is sovereign isn't he?" I replied, "yes. But you haven't heard my sermon on the responisbility of man!" I don't mean to be long winded this just brings back old memories. God bless.
Scott, thanks for posting this video. It has sparked a good debate.
Also, thanks for asking Robert about his sermon. I had the great privilege of being in that homiletics class and heard Robert preach that infamous sermon. I will never forget that our class was located in the attic of the religion building and the ceiling was very low. A ceiling fan hung from that ceiling and was spinning on the low setting right above the pulpit. Robert is a tall fella. And I will never forget listening to him preach on a "Castrated God" and found myself ducking each time a fan blade passed less than an inch above Roberts head.
good old memories indeed.
As a woman, I do find it a bit awkward to point out that there is a rather immense difference between being castrated and being decapitated... :-/
Hey Scott,
I blogged about this video back in December of last year. I feel that we probably share similar sentiments about it.
Fred
Scott and Jason, I am working with a friend to write a book called the Vasectomy of the American Church and it deals with many of the topics you have mentiond here.
The gay looking Jesus in this video will be a chapter topic now as well. Thanks for the FUN!
